This Week in Wall Street History October 5 - 11
The iconic robin's egg blue box went where the money is as high-end jeweler Tiffany & Company debuted a stunning 11,000 square foot retail store at 37 Wall Street, this week on October 10, 2007. After regally pomp trumpeters heralded the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, the royal and loyal Holly Golighty types swarmed the glittery steel cases to ogle the glamorous goods, sip bubbly champagne, and nosh on crisp Tiffany Blue® white iced cookies and a sumptuous breakfast. Plus, the tune "Moon River" (what else?) softly serenaded attendees gasping at the aerie 60-foot long metal mesh paneled, crystal drops' lit, cascading sculpture floated mid-air under the soaring 35-foot high ceilings. Appropriately enough, the exclusive New York founded emporium, located around the corner from the NYSE where it trades under the symbol TIF, marked a nearby return to Tiffany's original Lower Broadway location, opened in 1837. Additionally, the company's older, stately midtown building...and now southern tip of Manhattan dazzling digs, mirror the migrations of wealthy Big Apple residents uptown…and downtown again as the financial world goes electronic and trading floors go (pricey) condo.
